practicum class: journal entry.
I am continuing on my journey with my practicum hours at CenterPointe Hospital.
I am finding out that no two days are exactly the same. Some days are very smooth. While other days has its chalenges and rewarding moments.
Today was a rewarding day to me. Right now we have some preteens who are hospitalized for having suicidal thoughts. The preteens are easier to talk to than the young children. The young children are very impulsive, and active. their attention span is short. Today I worked with the preteens. I felt as is we were able to have some productive discussions on life. I felt as if the preteens really were listening to the discussions. At later times throughout the day; the individuals were able to tell me some very valuable information to them. A couple of people said that they don't want to have thoughts of harming themselves any more. We put in a safety plan for them as well. Due to confidentiality I can't give out very much information abaout what was discussed in the group setting. I was very plesed with the outcome of today.

Journal entry for practicum class
I am continuing my jouney with the completion of my practicum hours.
I have been able to have sucessfully completed 88 hours. My supervisor wrote out for me a satisfacory evaluation of my progress after te fisrt completed 75 hours. I am enjoying my experiences with the children's unit. The children's unit is definetly my nich. I feel as if I am doing something worthwhile and something that brings purpose to both the children and to myself. It brings great joy to see a child's eyes brighten up whenever, I walk into the door. Their previous life experiences for them haven't always been very good for them. Unforunate life occurances has happened to them that is beyon their control. Some of these children are in foster care, some with residential and some with a disfunctional famiy. These children have mental illness's and some of their current family members have mental health issues as well. Life for these children isn't very easy. These children's lives aren't the typical life that children have of individual's without a mental health issues. I work on bringing a little bit of light, and laughter to each child. I can't always do this though. Because of the unfortunate circumstances for which these children have experienced; anger, resentful emotions arise from the chidren. I have been implementing anger management lesson plans. Everything has been going well for me. I plan to continue the rest of my practicum hours to reach the recommended hours.

Journal entry for practicum class
I love and enjoy spending time with the children. My practicum hours has been spent on the children's unit at CenterPointe hospital.
The time I spend with the chilren are very frustrating, rewarding, challening, and very much worthwhile. I juat wish that I could maake a huge difference in each child's life. I do care about what I do at the hospital, and about the well being of eah child. I wish that I could just have a magic wand and make everything all better for each and every child there in the hospital. The frustration occurs when I can't make everything all better for eac child. So many unthinkable experiencnes have occured to these children. They not only have certain mental health challenges; they also have to overcome an unfortunate family experiences. Life for these children aren't easy. They don't have a childhood like a lot of children do. The children at CenterPointe hospital have to overcome a lot of obstacles that they will probably have to deal with primarily most of their life.
I can only do the best that I can. I am currently working on aissisting the children to have an inceased level of ability of teamwork, social skills, communication, self esteem issues, and personal relationship skills with family members. I am also working on making a difference in one or more individuals life. My goal with the children includes assisting the children to complete their treatment plan objectives. I also have a goal to assist each child to have at least some clarity of learning about the rquired techniques and tools towards having a better life. I do what only I can do. I would like to become a counselor of families and children. I currently have a life coach certificate. I plan to utilize my life coaching certificate, with children and families. I would like to expand my knowlege and experience towards counseling. That is where my interest is with children and families.
That is all for now.

practicum class: journal entry.
The purpose of this journal includes a descrption of all of my experiences; while completing the practicum requirements.
I am completing my practicum hours at CenterPointe Hospital. I am currently on the children's unit.
My experiences include a sense of frustration, satisfaction, and a sense of purpose. I enjoy spending time with the children. Spending time in the children's unit is a very good match for me. I have the experience, education, and a sense of belonging.
The childdren in the hospital have many issues that efect them. They may have multiple issues. Some children have mental health issues, in combination with a unhealthy family life. Some parents have there own mental health issues that only compound things for these children.
I am currently working with developing a sense of positve motivation/incentives for the children to believe in themselves. The positisve motivation/incentive is a way to encourage a child to accomplish somthing good in their lives.
I have begun a posivitve incentive smiley face board. The smiley face board keeps track of their progress throughout the day of how well they are doing. Then in the afternoon; according to how many smiley faces the child has will correspond with what the child is able to get out of the prize box. The children all look forward towards this time of day. I just wish that I could get the rest of the staff involved or enthused in this incentive time.
I have written some curriculum ideas. The curriculum ideas are used in group activities. The children like having a variety of different group ideas all of the time. Every day has a theme. Monday is I am marvelous monday, tuesday is teamwork tuesday, wednesday is walk away wednesday, thursday is thankyou thursday, friday is friendship friday, saturday is feel your spirit saturday, and sunday is super soapy sunday. The whole curriculum was completed in a whole forum of committess and planning. I completed the whole curricum for monday and tuesday. I wrote up ten lesson plans for self esteem ideas, and teamwork ideas.
My next project that I would like to develop includes being an instrumental person in developing training for current staff and for the new staff on everyone using the same language with all of the children. We have non-compliant children. As soon as a child hears the word no; then a child becomes upset. There are just certain trigger words that can cause an incident of having an upset child; or a way to use specific words to keep a child calm. Some people are use to telling a child what they can or can not do. This is good; however, you can't harp on all of things that a child is doing wrong. Catching a child doing good is impportant too. For example, if a child is making a lot of disruptive noises; tell a child what they should be doing. A person has a tendacy to focus on what the child is doing wrong. I would just like to develop a consistent language for the staff to use with the children.
I have had a conversation with my supervisor about the possibility of of developing a set of consisten language to be used by staff. I am planning on having an ongoing meetings with a social worker, to devise a consistent set of language words to use with the children. This will only benefit the children as a whole. I am very much an advocate for children. I love working with children and plan to continue working with children for a lot longer.
That is all I am going to say in this particular journal entry. I will write again soon. Until, then,

this is from the class notes of 2/21/09 and on page 688 of the book. Know this information for the test.
that is all for now.
I can and will do good. I will pass this test and the class. The power of positive thinking. I will do it, and I can do it.

ex. 2
How many intergers between 1000, and 9999 divisible by 5 has 4 digits.
10 digits from 10-100.
9,10,10,2, only choose from 0-5 or two choices.
9 is 1-9, 10 is 0-9 choices,
the product rule is 9 times 10 times 10 times 10, times 2 = 1800
2. second rule: formula: factorial
0!=1
n!=1 times 2-n
1!=1
2!=1 times 2 =2
3!=1 times 2 times 3=6
4!=1 times 2 times 3 times 4 = 24
3rd rule: Factorial rule and the product rule:
example 3.
3 places or 3 boxes =
3 times 2 times 1 = 6
3 places to put people.
Arrangements of n distinct objects page 688
n=n1,+ n2, + .....nk
ex. 20 cards some cards may have 20 letters.
5 A
6 B
3 C
6 D
how many different ways to arrange the 20 symbols.
the formula for this is: n! as a numerator and n1!, n2!,....nk.
n= all summations of all of the symbols
ex. 4 (x+y+2+a+b) to the 20th power coeffecient 20
x5 power plus y7 power, plus z8 power=20
a numerator of 20! 20-19 with a demonator of 5!7!8!10!0!-5,-2 then cancel.
ex.4 continued
(a+b+c+d)8 a3b1c2d2=8 8! with a denominator of 3!1!2!2!= a numerator of
8times 7times 6 times 5 times 4 times 3 with a denominator of
3!1!2!2!= 3 times 2 times 2 times 2=
56 times 30= 1680

Mathematical Concepts 115 ch. 11
Chapter 11: 2/21/09 notes in class and from the text.
Discusses differant counting methods:
1. The tree diagram; page 674.
The tree diagram is a method of building numbers from a set of digits.
Foe example; A,B,C,
can be diagramed as many possible combinations availabe;
ABC, ACB, BAC, BCA, CAB, CBA,
The total number of combinations are 6.
2. The product Rule: with uniformity criterion, and the Fundamental counting principle;
ex.1. This is a multiple part task involving all parts to be the same with the same number of choices no matter what the previous choices were in the past. The formula is: n1,times n2,.....nk
another example is to have 5 choices for an I.D. card and what are all of the possibilities: = A,B,C,D, 1,2,3,
ADCC, 322 becomes the answer.
there are 4 possibilities: n1 is 4 n2 is 4 n3 is4 n4is 3 n5is 3. There are 4 possibilities, that is why n1-n3 is a 4. n-4-5 is a 3; because of the three possiblities. The product rule or the fundamental counting principle:
is n4 4.4.4.3.3 The answer is then given by the product.
That is all for now. I will continue later.
